Kanye, J Cole, and Mac Return

A few weeks ago was one of the biggest days in rap music in a long time.  With highly anticipated releases from a rap legend, a Roc Nation star, and the independent MC.  Yeezus, Born Sinner, and Watching Movies With the Sound Off all bring their unique sounds and lyrics to the rap game.

Yeezus brings the heavy, energetic beats brought to the listener by producer turned rapper, Kanye West.  This is Kanye's seventh solo album.  The album utilizes Kanye's excellent ear for beats, combining that with controversial lyrics, which he has already caught criticism for.  The only downfall of the album is that there is only ten songs on the CD.

Born Sinner, the sophomore album from J. Cole, is the follow up to his debut album, Cole World.  After exploding through the mixtape scene Cole hit the mainstream with Cole World.  Born Sinner shows his continued growth lyrically.  He has quickly become one of the top lyricists in the game.

Mac Miller was the first independent artist to have a number one album since the 90s and his sophomore album, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, is better than his debut album.  The goofy, white kid from Pittsburgh returns with a laid back, fun album.  Mac has a different flow than anyone in the game and it is good to see someone who is able to sell a ton of records without the major label.

These three albums have been a huge success so far and have been a great way to start this summer in hip hop.  There are some highly anticipated albums coming out this year, which includes Kanye's Throne partner, Jay-Z, whose Magna Carta Holy Grail comes out tomorrow!  In the words of Bart Scott, "Can't wait!"
